Legislature passes bill to enhance pay equity

Former Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Murphy joined House legislators before a vote on a pay equity bill — an issue that Murphy has devoted much of her career to attain.

H.4109, An Act relative to salary range transparency, and also known as the Frances Perkins Workplace Equity Act, aims to strengthen Massachusetts’ Equal Pay Act of 2016 by requiring that job postings include salary or hourly pay range – one of the best tools to close wage gaps – and that employees have the right to ask for pay raises in the workplace. It would also create a process for collecting data on pay gaps. The bill is good policy for both employees and employers and helps make Massachusetts more equitable and competitive.
