The Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women (MCSW) recently held its Commonwealth Heroines ceremony in the Great Hall at the State House. 126 women were honored at the June 23 ceremony, including Rep. Hogan’s nominee from Bolton, Mary Boyd.
The Commonwealth Heroine Celebration is an opportunity to recognize the women across the state who don’t always make the news but who are truly making a difference in their communities, businesses, or volunteer endeavors.
Mary Boyd has been a longtime volunteer for Bolton seniors — making phone calls to town seniors on their birthdays, driving folks to doctor appointments, grocery shopping for the homebound and generously offering support to residents with disabilities so that they are able to participate in town activities. She delivers flowers from a local farm to people in need of a pick-me-up and even stores fans in her garage in case someone needs one during a summer heat wave.
Mary volunteers at all Bolton Veteran’s Day celebrations and has organized the annual town cleanup for Earth Day. She also helped launch and grow the Bolton Community Fund.
Mary is an icon in town, a serial do-gooder, a voice for the underdog and a model of generosity in all forms. There’s truly something about Mary!
